The commercials, mailers, and billboards of Christmas are all designed to make you want what you don’t have–but can have–if they can have your money.
In the first Christmas, the message the angel gives Mary isn’t a message for what she doesn’t have, it’s a message to realize what she already does have: God. When the angel announces “The Lord is with you”, (Lk. 1:27) she learns that God doesn’t just think of her or consider her, she learns that God Himself is WITH her. Fully. Unconditionally. Permanently.
This year, rethink the way you Christmas and be content.
Instead of looking at what you don’t have, recognize the unwavering presence and power of the God you do have. The same God who hung the stars for Adam and stargazed with Abraham is with you. Let the reality of all He is settle over you and put to rest all of your anxiety about what you don’t have.
When you prepare for Christmas by being content with the God you have, you’ll find a peace that doesn’t depend on whether or not you have the latest gadget.
The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
